 Relay configurations

The simplest relay has two contact surfaces that provide a link between circuits; these links are referred to

as poles.

Relay contacts can be normally open or closed (NO/NC) and this is normally marked on the body of the relay. The number of circuits that can be linked by a single relay operation is called the throw.

The simplest form of relay would be single-pole, single-throw (SPST). Relay configurations are commonly found in aircraft. Typical relay installations on a general aviation aircraft.
